[Powerpoint for this talk: meaning-of-christmas-kids-talk.ppt

Don’t forget that Christmas is about the birth of Jesus and the start of his mission to rescue sinners.

Christmas is a really exciting time and there are lots of things that remind us about it.

I’m going to show you a picture that has lots of things to do with Christmas.  Now I’m only going to show it to you for about 30 seconds and I want you to look carefully and try to remember as many things that you see as possible.

Who can tell me some of the things they saw on the screen?

Now I wonder, did anyone see a picture of a baby.  What’s a baby got to do with Christmas?

There are so many things to do with Christmas that sometimes we don’t remember that most important thing is the birth of Jesus.  We get caught up in Christmas trees and turkey that we forget about Jesus.

In the Bible we are told what Christmas is about and why it is so important.

“Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners”

That’s what we remember at Christmas time.

Christ Jesus came into the world – that’s the birth of Jesus, that’s how he came into the world.

To save sinners – that’s why Jesus was born.  The Bible says sinners are people who disobey God – that’s you and me.  Jesus was born to save sinners, to rescue people.  Jesus was on a rescue mission.

This rescue mission began on earth when Jesus was born, which is what we remember at Christmas time, and the rescue mission was finished when He died on the cross and rose again, which is what we remember at Easter time.

So this Christmas, while you’re enjoying opening your presents and eating turkey, remember that the Bible says Christmas is about the birth of Jesus which was the start of His mission to rescue sinners.
